Abstract
Analysis of Sea Turtle Migration Patterns with GIS
Track: Teaching with GIS Across the Curriculum
Authors: Susan Kelly
Through GIS shapefiles and image files, students investigate potential relationships between chlorophyll concentration, sea surface temperature, and migration patterns of sea turtles.
Having practiced GIS, ImageJ and Google Earth spatial analysis techniques in the course of participating in the four month-long NASA-funded Eyes in the Sky II professional development program, I have found this investigation to be an engaging platform for high school teachers and students to develop and extend spatial analysis skills.
