Abstract
Creating and Using Video Demonstrations from ArcGIS for Online Learning
Track: User Presentations - Teaching

As the first required course in LIU Online's new Mobile GIS Applications Development advanced certificate program, our GIS 501 course includes distributed, non-traditional students, some with no previous background with ArcGIS software. Our instructors carefully considered the creation and use of GIS video tutorials in such a setting. To create the videos, we use ScreenFlow software running on a Mac to capture the instructor and the screen, with ArcGIS running within VMWare Fusion. After being edited and saved, videos are uploaded to Vimeo from which they are embedded into pages in our Blackboard course management system. Videos and associated sample data are used to introduce the students to functionality within the software, and to prepare students for weekly assignments that build upon these skills
