Community demographic characteristics are closely associated with both school success and school spending. This presentation shows how Community Analyst Online can be used to analyze school performance and finance. The community characteristics within various drivetime areas around selected elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in Santa Clara County, California are analyzed in terms of school performance as measured by the Academic Performance Index (API) and school spending as measured by expenditures per Average Daily Attendance (ADA).
Different drivetime areas are relevant for different K-12 educational levels because elementary school students live closer to their schools than middle school students, who live closer to their schools than high school students. Community demographic data, including forecasts, are shown to be important influences on school success and finance. Community Tapestry data accessed through Community Analyst Online is also shown to be highly correlated with measures of school performance and school finance.
