Introductory and intermediate 2 day GIS Resources and Instructional Development (GRID) workshops funded by the National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education Program were held over a span of 3 years. Two cohorts of about 15 participants each learned to acquire, process, integrate, display, and analyze GIS data from private and governmental sources. Included were high school teachers and community college and university faculty in the Northern region of San Diego County. The workshops focused on learning GIS desktop and web-based tools for instructors' content based classes, among them kinesiology, biology, anthropology, mathematics, and linguistics. During the workshop, participants develop curriculum using desktop and web-based GIS tools. One semester after the conclusion of each workshop, participants were asked to participate in a 2 hour webinar to share their experience in integrating GIS into their curriculum. Lessons learned from developing and implementing these workshops will be explored in this presentation.
