Abstract
Journey from "Map Room" to GIS Library: Lessons Learned
Track: User Presentations - Research
Authors: Miriam Olivares, Katherine Weimer
This session will discuss a series of lessons learned during our process to reinvent our GIS services. Learn how we transformed the Texas A&M University Libraries' Map Room into a robust Map & GIS Library and a central place on campus for geospatial information and support. We will describe how we have built partnerships with many academic departments, and how we are playing a role encouraging students to learn GIS and become more competitive in the job market. We will share our best practices on creating in-house tutorials, designing seminars, outreach events, including GIS Day, and hands-on workshops based on identified gaps, and manage an effective GIS Consultation Team formed by GIS Student Techs.
