Using Field Science to Promote Elementary Students’ Spatial Thinking

During the Little Sugar Creek Watershed Study, First Ward Elementary (Charlotte, NC) partnered with Queens University, Discovery Place Museum, county storm water personnel, and other student groups along the watershed to extend student environmental awareness to the larger community scale. Together, we conducted biological, chemical, and habitat assessments and jointly examined how the watershed we share changes spatially. The students created a story map to analyze and share their findings.
