Abstract
Success Tips for an Introductory University-Level GIS Course
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Richard Kos
This session will deliver a short list of specific, time-tested techniques for introducing university students to GIS and geospatial thinking. By describing memorable metaphors, groan-inducing GIS-based jokes, 'mantras', learning diaries, and ArcGIS Online to 'ease' students into ArcGIS Desktop, the presenter will share his tips for success that have been polished over the past nine years. The focus will be kept on building spatial literacy, workforce-readiness skills and student confidence.
