Abstract
Teaching GIS using Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Joanne Logan
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) are a great resource to use to teach a college-level introductory GIS class in Soil and Water Science. Key GIS concepts such as map layers, adding data, classifying and symbolizing, heads-up digitizing, field data collection with GPS and mobile apps, map layouts, spatial analyses, and online mapping are all covered in the process of developing the maps and analyses used for SWPPP reporting. A sample project work flow will be presented.
