Abstract
Hand-drawn Exercises for Learning GIS
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Patrick Kennelly
Introductory GIS courses tend to include computer-based exercises. Additionally including exercises requiring the student to map, graph or draw by hand, however, may reinforce spatial learning. This presentation shows examples of hand-drawn exercises from a number of GIS instructors. I hope to foster discussion and promote use of such exercises in the classroom, which may help those with more tactile learning styles better understand theories and practices of spatial thinking and GIS.
