Geography's Role in Shaping Community College Students' 'Choice Sets'

This study analyzes the spatial distribution of the 4-year institutions that community college students are considering transferring to, as reported by survey. We compare spatial patterns across two college systems in Texas. We perform transportation network analysis with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript. We calculate whether the institutions selected are within students’ immediate metro areas, within the state, or out of state. Findings have implications for college access and completion.
