Abstract
GIS and Citizen Science: Combining Open Source and Esri Technologies
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Muki Haklay, Patrick Rickles
GIS has historically required specialist knowledge, but the ubiquity of smartphones have unlocked powerful geospatial engagement potentials. Extreme Citizen Science (ExCiteS) have developed open source tools for facilitating citizen science projects and integrating those results into Esri technologies to allow citizens to contribute to official data sources for improved decision making. This presentation will focus on how the positive global impact both have been able to achieve together.
