• Introduction

T-Kartor Sweden AB was founded in 1985 and has since the start built its business around digital map handling. T-Kartor was established in Kristianstad where we still have our head office.

In production of digital maps did one use the computer as a substitute for the analogue drawing techniques. We started to use GIS systems early. The staff was really enthusiastic about giving the customer something more than a map on paper. The message to the customers became that we could give them a map that could be used in a lot of applications used by the geographic information industry.

To do this did we, during the last years of the 1980s, create a menu system built on ArcInfo. The thought was that this system was only to be used internal and we used the production experience that we’d got over the years when developing it.

After one year of developing we were asked by Esri if we wanted to be in an offer that they were submitting to a customer. We got the order and the product CPS, Cartographics Production System, was created with the overall principle of developing a system for database driven cartography.

This led to a fast expansion of the company, and today we work in lots of areas within the vertical markets of: cartography, transport/navigation and market analysis.

• Map production
  T-Kartor produces maps to a lot of different organizations. We use CPS in our map production, and we are today Sweden’s largest private map producer. The most well-known products that we do are the maps in the phone books for the Telia InfoMedia (Swedish Telecom). We’ve been working with Swedish Media Telecom for the past ten years and today we do all their production and handling of maps and geographical databases.

• Consultancy
  With our competence after several years in the GIS business do we often get offers to build custom-made applications on top of standard products or to solve problems that are specific for that customer. One example of such an application is the distance tables for the Swedish National Road Administration, which today is used as a national standard when buying and selling transportation. Another example is that we are creating guiding databases for the new car navigation systems. We are also developing HIS, Hydrographic Information System for the Swedish and Finnish Maritime Administrations.

• Databases
  We make packages with a geographic database together with a software that are suitable for different customers needs. We represent many different data sources, for example: Satellitbild, Statistics Sweden, Swedish National Road Administration, Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

• CPS
  We develop, sell and maintain CPS (Cartographics Production System). We corporate with Esri’s distributors all over the world and have done so since 1991. Today there are more than 200 CPS licenses on the market in more than 30 countries.
