Abstract
Planning for Urban Densification with ArcGIS & LiDAR Data
Track: Smarter 3D Cities
Authors: Stuart Jones
With a rapidly growing population of over 516,500, Surrey is the 12th largest city in Canada, and is on track to becoming the most populated city in Metro Vancouver by 2046. To analyze strategies for urban densification, the City of Surrey developed a 3D model in ArcGIS by combining LiDAR data and vector layers. This presentation will discuss how the model was built, and how it is used by city planners to visualize new developments and ensure their compatibility with existing neighbourhoods.
