As the public highly demands, the response time and the quality of services should be improved. GIS as a tool has been recommended to be incorporated into public service processes especially those that are spatially related. Semarang is the second largest city in Indonesia (37,000 hectares) and has become one of the pioneers in implementing GIS applications for suppporting public services in Indonesia. Currently, the integration of public service processes with site measurement, advice planning, land and building tax, building permit, and parcel ownership is already supported by GIS applications running on local area networks. By using these applications, the previous time required for processing has been cut. All the applications were developed using ArcView GIS (including ArcView 3D Analyst) and PC ARC/INFO. The total map sheets were 1,650 in 1:1,000 map scale. |
