There is a higher than expected incidence of breast cancer on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has funded the research that Silent Spring Institute (SSI) has done over the past four years. Applied Geographics, Inc., has been part of the SSI team, building the GIS system used to analyze the incidents of breast cancer in relation to environmental factors on the cape. This paper will focus on the Proximity Tool that AGI has developed to help researchers at SSI analyze the exposure women have had to environmental factors--this paper focusing on cranberry bogs.
