URS Greiner Woodward Clyde is a consulting engineering firm and a leader in supplying infrastructure problem solutions. We have produced the PROMPT? (PROactive Maintenance Planning Tool) family of products developed to assist transmission and distribution companies of natural gas, water, and electricity in identifying optimal inspection and maintenance strategies. The optimization considers the risk of pipeline failure as well as business costs. The paper will describe the optimization algorithm and the use of an integrated GIS subsystem for data review, specification of analysis scoping criteria, and definition and analysis of alternative maintenance projects.
