Mapping your Documents: Issues Integrating GIS with Document Management Author: Andrew D. Swenson 200 E. Washington Street Phone: 317-327-5132 The Division of Permits of the City of Indianapolis, Marion County, processes about 50,000 permits every year. Since 1995, this agency has made major investments in three major types of software in conjunction with a major business process reengineering effort. The division has invested in its building permits client/server software, a City/County GIS system, and a document management system for storing and retrieving records. Bringing these three systems together has required the resources of several different agencies and the complex integration of at least four software packages. This paper addresses some of the key technical and management issues involved in creating a workable, combined system. |
