Organizing an Esri State-wide Site License: The Oregon Experience

This paper reviews the process used to organize a State-wide Esri site license for the Oregon university system (OUS), a consortium of seven State universities and one affiliated university. Coordination at the level of the individual universities and the State is examined. Efforts to couple the Esri site license with other software site licensing programs, specifically ERDAS and S-PLUS, are also reviewed. The experience of the OUS emphasizes the importance of support at the upper administrative level and within and between departments on campus. The experience of Oregon to organize a site license is then compared to the efforts of other states.
