The Capital Area Greenbelt GIS Project is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, combining a unique mix of teamwork and partnerships toward the goal of creating a community-based geographical information system accessible via a Web-based GIS system. Over the past year, a model partnership has formed between central Pennsylvania public and private K-12 schools, higher education, and private businesses. Using ArcView GIS 3.1, the students constructed a map of the capital area greenbelt, a system of linked parks, trails, lakes, streams, and creeks encircling Pennsylvania's capital city accessible via the Internet through the County library system.
