One function of the Georgia Department of Transportation Office of Information Services is to collect and manage a variety of transportation-related data. In response to an ever increasing demand for data the OIS serves a series of interactive map sites to internal as well as external customers. Utilizing Esri MapObjects and MapObjects Internet Map Server, traffic count data and bridge weight limit data is made available at http://gis.dot.state.ga.us to customers such as OIS Services Bureau, real estate companies, and trucking companies. This paper addresses the challenges and benefits of serving transportation-related data using GIS Web-based technology.
