My goal in presenting this paper is to allow others to see how valuable GIS is when it is used in a way that will provided valuable information not previously known regarding environmental dangers. The questions that I specifically plan to answer are, How dangerous is California's Santa Ana River and who is in greatest danger if flooding were to occur? My project was created within ArcView GIS 3.1 using ArcInfo for digitizing purposes as well as ArcView Spatial Analyst and ArcView 3D Analyst for hydrologic analysis purposes. These powerful GIS tools produced results that reveal important information to one of the most highly populated regions in California.
