GIS offers law enforcement more than computerized crime mapping or electronic pin maps. GIS offers the industry an opportunity to use cutting-edge technology in just about every aspect of operations, and some we have not yet thought of. This presentation will report the findings of an extensive needs assessment and related research conducted of law enforcement agencies in California. It will discuss current applications in the field, new technology, and a litany of cutting-edge applications found in the starting blocks of many agencies. Traditional crime fighting techniques will literally fall below the standard of care without the aid of GIS technology.
