This work aims at conceiving and creating a system to distribute geological and mining information through the Web, implementing services for querying data, metadata, and for interactive mapping. The dynamic integration of query and mapping processes allows transfer to a client side of a package of typical local GIS functionalities. Because of the technical and scientific nature of the data involved associated with its eventual strategic importance, control mechanisms to data access are required to be implemented with transparency. The use of platform-independent technology and of mechanisms designed separately from the data sets involved allows the characterization of this system as a distributed GIS prototype, increasing flexibility, performance, and security to the commercial solutions. |
