Automobile accidents involving white-tailed deer have been a major problem for Maryland in recent years. I have incorporated GIS and GPS to better understand the spatial and temporal trends of this phenomenon. Accident attributes (time of day, direction of travel, geographic location, available lighting, proximity of vegetation, etc.) were analyzed to determine which combinations (if any) produced a significant number of accidents. The information gained from this analysis is crucial for decision makers in the transportation and natural resource management fields who wish to better understand a growing problem.
