The Georgia Department of Transportation has limited resources for GIS system management and data management. In an effort to simplify system administration, data management, help files and how-to's, and application deployment, we have developed a Web-based front end to do routine management and administration tasks. We have also deployed applications through the Web to users across the State. This system simplifies complex tasks to the click of a button from any Web browser. It allows easy management of data check-in and checkout for editing, provides quick and easy data conversion from and to different formats, and allows complex system administration tasks be performed by any authorized user. The system frees up time and allows managers to manage and not have to chase down their system administrator every time they have a task. We are also using the Web to deploy applications to our users throughout the State. With limited network resources and in order to avoid the redundancy of housing data sets at many sites, the Web has been an efficient method to deploy GIS applications to DOT employees throughout the State.
