The GIS Game: A New Approach to Teaching Geographic Information Science Author: Stephanie L. Pruss 4400 East Broadway Blvd Phone: (520)202-3333 Teaching geographic information science often focuses on mastering powerful software packages to enable the solving of many practical problems. We believe, however, that focusing teaching efforts more on the underlying basic principles of spatial science may lead to an even wider acceptance of geographic information systems. "The GIS Game" initiates a fun, participatory group learning experience away from the computer. The objective of the game is to creatively assemble play pieces into themes and then to carry out analyses and simulations. The game can be played with one or more players. It can be useful for self-study, teaching, examinations, or simply nerdy entertainment. |
