Smooth Implementation of Environmetal Management GIS in a CAD Environment Author: J.J. Meadows 1901 Commonwealth Lane Phone: 850/575-1800 Typical land development projects begin in a CAD environment due the engineering aspect of the work. Generalized development plans are produced for planning purposes, then the regulatory and permitting process begins. As the project progresses and natural feature identification, mapping, and analysis come into play, it becomes obvious that CAD may not be the best answer to efficient management of the process. The challenge becomes taking what has been developed and approved in CAD and converting it to a usable GIS format. Once the GIS base has been established, changes made to the CAD data must be managed and reflected. |
