An Automatic Vehicle Location System for Transit Vehicles Author: Michael Berman 201 S Jackson St Phone: 206-263-3732 King County Metro Transit (Seattle, Washington) has developed an automatic vehicle location system that provides the ability for Transit Communications coordinators to locate and track the progress of coaches in the Metro/King County service area in real time. The software was built using MapObjects, Visual Basic, Hastus scheduling data, and an Informix database. The software is critical to the coordinators in determining the location of specific coaches, either to assist coach operators or to assist passengers who are attempting to transfer to other coaches. The software also integrates voice radio communications with the coach operator. |
