GIS data collection from field survey and conversion from existing hard-copy sources into GIS databases will often suffer from high cost, low accuracy, and out-of-date issues. Soft-copy photogrammetry with SOCET SET offers a productive alternative to these classical problems by using recent imagery to extract accurate and up-to-date GIS data directly from imagery. This technique uses image understanding and vision techniques to automate GIS data conversion from imagery to GIS databases. The extracted GIS data (DTM, TIN, vector feature databases, and orthocorrected images) is ingested by ArcInfo, ArcView GIS, and SDE through interfaces of shapefile and ARC GRID, as well as a live link to SDE.
