As the need to provide more usable spatial data becomes more apparent in the archaeological/cultural resources community, a concern arises with the standardization and organization of metadata. Applications using MapObjects to make spatial data readily available for collection and analysis are logical additions to the archaeologist's field kit. MapObjects also allows the user to customize this information as needed in a hierarchical manner and to standardize symbology. This paper will address the function and role of MapObjects in this process, citing field applications from archaeological sites in Canaan, Israel; the Pecos Ranger District, New Mexico; and the Bedwell Bay mystery shipwreck, British Columbia.
