Since the early 1990s local statistical methods have been specially developed to analyze the "spatial" aspects of geographical data stored in GIS. These include local Moran, local Geary, Gi, and G*i. Most of the earlier developments tend to adopt the one-directional approach of integration, in which data from a GIS is transferred to a statistical analysis system for analysis, and the results then transferred back to the GIS for mapping. This paper presents a close coupling approach of integrating local spatial statistical methods in the ArcView GIS environment using Avenue, an object-oriented macro programming language.
