As part of the NSDI Community Demonstration Project, Dane County, Wisconsin, was designated by Vice President Al Gore as one of six selected communities across the United States to help demonstrate how GIS and other technologies can aid in sustainable planning efforts at the local level. To assist in community-based decision making, the Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility (LICGF, UW-Madison) is developing a "Planning Toolkit," consisting of software modules and tools that help support land use analysis, growth allocation, visualization, and impact assessment. This toolkit will enable citizens to better understand, visualize, and predict future consequences of alternative land use plans. Partnering on this project includes both Dane County and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, along with the City and Town of Verona, Wisconsin.
