The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) has been involved in the collection of groundwater data in the Central Valley of California for over 30 years. This data has been maintained in an Oracle database with an interface to ArcInfo and ArcView GIS for analysis and display. This year USBR is using ArcInfo and ArcView GIS to assess change in groundwater surface elevations for the separate basins in the Central Valley on a yearly basis with this data. This paper discusses the procedures used to develop this sequence of snapshots in time and the requirements for maintenance of this data for use by cooperators in the project.
