Community Safety Information System (CSIS) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina Author: Julia B Conley 725 N Cherry St Phone: 336 773-7864 Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was the first of five communities to develop a Community Safety Information System (CSIS) as part of the Department of Justice (DOJ) sponsored Strategic Approaches to Community Safety Initiative (SACSI). The Winston-Salem initiative has relied on DOJ, local agencies, and researchers to provide and integrate diverse community data sources for the implementation of research-based strategies to reduce and prevent juvenile violence. CSIS, an Internet Map Server application that integrates diverse community data from multiple agencies, was developed as an analytical tool to assist the local SACSI efforts. Our challenge to complete development of CSIS to successfully meet the community and researcher needs has required continued support from DOJ, the developer, and local efforts in order to resolve the remaining issues. |
