Evaluating and comparing the accuracy of different digital databases can be a challenge when different vendors use different measures and definitions to describe their data sets. This presentation will discuss the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) created by the Federal Geographic Data Committee to assess accuracy of both digital and paper maps. Using the NSSDA, different data sets can be compared on an equal footing with a well-defined set of standards. The presentation will also discuss why the National Map Accuracy Standard currently used by many people to discuss data accuracy is out of place in today's world of digital maps.
