Integrating Real-Time Weather Data into GIS Author: Rhonda L. Copley 707 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. # 120 Phone: 937-435-8871 Remote weather stations can facilitate the integration of real-time and near real-time weather data into geographic information systems. By deploying instruments or "sticks" that monitor surface conditions like temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall, weather data is collected and distributed over the Internet. Continuous snapshots of available data, including NWS and Praxis remote weather station observations, are then gathered using a Kavouras MetWork FileServer, which creates a multipoint shapefile. These shapefiles can be transferred to a user's Web site via FTP. |
