This session focuses on current advancements in the use of GIS technology to support the mission of the Department of Defense (DOD). Highlights will include an overall approach within the Land Management System (LMS) initiative complemented with real-life examples by DOD GIS user sites. Example uses will incorporate case studies to illustrate the use of GIS (e.g., Esri) alone as well as how GIS is linked with other technologies to fulfill more powerful technology and DOD needs. GIS linkages with technologies such as predictive models and simulations serve to strengthen the effectiveness of technology in matching user needs and the complexity and diversity of DOD issues. LMS relevancy to other agencies and organizations will also be highlighted.
