GIS provides a strong component for proactive military land management in the State of Hawaii. Natural and cultural resource issues, such as archaeological sites, threatened and endangered species, and severe erosion sites, may conflict with high-impact training activities. A series of environmental coordination maps has been developed to aid the decision making process for the timing and location of high-impact training events and increase overall environmental awareness of the fragile Hawaiian ecosystem. ArcInfo, ArcView GIS, ArcView Spatial Analyst, and ArcView 3D Analyst were integral in the data processing and map development for this proactive training land management project.
