Utilities implement enterprise resource planning systems to achieve cross-cutting applications using tightly coupled business data. GIS, mobile data dispatch, outage management systems, and network analysis systems provide integration through spatial data and models of networks, facilities, and customers. For maximum benefit, these applications integrate ERP data and functions like those of SAP's R/3, a time- and resource-intensive process. The OpenFM Alliance by SAP, Esri/Miner and Miner, and others standardizes this process, producing predefined business objects and programming interfaces to work with R/3's business application programming interfaces, reducing cost and risk. This paper describes the OpenFM integration framework including technical and functional requirements.
