Owing to the expanding of the Taipei metropolis and the rapid clustering of population, the land use and land cover within and near the mountain area of the Taipei basin has changed quickly, too. The location of it is at the cross of three rivers, and it always experiences flood disasters, especially during typhoon season. The flood disaster situation at the lower place has changed because the land use and land cover were converted as a flood control project. Although flood control engineering has stopped the floods efficiently, it still has some risk and cannot prevent flood completely. This study integrated the technique of RS and GIS and utilized DTM, DB of GIS, and the flood disaster information of the past years to analyze the change of distribution of the floodplain caused by the land use and land cover change. With it we can effectively make decisions on flood controlling of the whole basin.
