Space Imaging is a leading supplier of space imagery, aerial photography, mapping services, and derivative geographic information products and services. In 1999, Space Imaging launched IKONOS, the world's first commercial one-meter resolution earth imaging satellite and also began commercial operation of its Digital Airborne Imaging System (DAIS), which collects 12 bit true multispectral data. This paper will give examples and explain the key features of these high-resolution digital systems that make them an important part of the "tool set" available to the GIS user community involved in enviromental applications.
