Georgia, the third fastest growing state in the United States, conducted several programs to prepare for Census 2000. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) coordinated the State Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) program in partnership with the Census Bureau and State Regional Development Centers by providing training and technical services to all 159 counties and 534 municipal governments. The Georgia LUCA Internet Web site (www.rdis.org/luca) provided information, tools, data, and support services. All counties and census places, representing over 98 percent of the State population, participated in the LUCA review. Over one million new residential addresses were reported to the Census Bureau. Georgia also worked with Census toward a complete boundary annexation survey.
