Tracing the network provides a great amount of complex georeferenced information, which is managed and stored in a database using SDE. This information is necessary in network optimization and for the location of problematic points.

The REM system consists of a set of unattended mobile units (MUs) with GPS receivers that trace the network and send the georeferenced information via short messages service (SMS) to a central node (CN), which preprocesses that information and stores it in files. Later, these files are accessed through ArcView GIS and other analysis tools (developed in Telefónica I+D [R&D] with the contribution of Esri España, built using Visual C++ and MapObjects) and integrated into a corporate database (SDE and Oracle).
