Mobile computing or new wearable computers for faster customer response, quicker outage management, and improved customer service are critical components to these solutions. Speech recognition and lightweight wearable computers have progressed to the point where proven solutions are now in the market, allowing hands-free, eyes-up speech data collection and data entry, whether collecting asset location and condition or generating information through form templates. Combine speech and wearable computers with connectivity to the Internet along with dispatching and routing to provide improved customer benefits and corporate savings. This paper will discuss speech recognition and wearable computing applications as a critical component to an enterprisewide information management system in creating a competitive advantage.
