This paper features a GIS commercial database developed for the City of San Mateo, California. Map Objects IMS was used in developing an Internet and Intranet-based interface. The continuously refreshed database is specific to parcels, buildings, and spaces within buildings and incorporates tabular, map, photographic, and video data. The Intranet component features an economic analysis tool, allowing in-house staff to query among various economic indicators to produce reports on industry distribution, sales tax, space inventory, and underutilized sites. The publicly accessible Internet component features a commercial space locator and a marketing tool that maps new developments and provides detailed information about commercial districts.
