This study is a joint project between Yokohama National University and City of Yokohama (the second largest city in Japan), Department of Building, Department of Road, and Departmen. of Disaster Front Office. This kind of collaboration is uncommon in Japan, since departments are divided vertically in local governments. (Each department is working alone. They hardly have collaboration with each other.)

In this study, new methods of hazard evaluation for landslide and debris flow using GIS are shown. These methods evaluate cliffs and slopes from Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and records of collapse. These methods are drawn from field surveys and advice from geological specialists. This is a continuation of the presentation in the 1999 Esri User Conference.
