The key goal of an airport is to serve air travelers safely. But an underriding goal is to create efficiencies and add value to public services. We know GIS provides a direct return, but its intrinsic value is difficult to measure. The return on investment (ROI) equation for GIS must include the change in these factors after GIS implementation: the airport's ability to manage maintenance, documents, lease space, related assets, and more. Airport managers must understand that GIS is a tool that connects existing systems and can make access to data more efficient, thereby providing powerful decision making capability.
