Banking applications generally deal with bankwide issues such as merger acquisition analysis, branch siting, CRA compliance mapping, and branch performance analysis. There are also many ways to use GIS tools in a production environment that enhance day-to-day banking activities such as marketing, market program analysis, list generation, business continuity, emergency preparedness, and loss mitigation. This paper discusses the use of readily available tools that can help any GIS professional justify the costs and use of these tools within a banking environment. Examples of the use of these tools as well as a discussion of the justification process are included in this presentation.
