Abstract
Geocoding - the foundation for any Location Based Service and Geomarketing-Application

This paper presents the importance of geocoding for any Location Based Service and Geomarketing-Application. The article points out that with infoware’s Geocoder any user is able to geocode addresses and immediately receives, through a link to infoware’s ArcIMS server, a digital map showing the exact location of the address. The batch-modus of the application enables the user to geocode large address-databases. Once geocoded, the whole dataset can then be shown on a map, for example, in ArcView. Through the connection to ArcIMS and ArcView the application provides a solution for a large number of applications for a wide variety of industries, such as banks, insurance, GIS-based companies, etc.
