Abstract
SpatialDirect for ArcIMS: Data Distribution for the Community

This paper describes how the global, Web-based, data distribution requirements of the Community Update Program were solved using an integrated solution SpatialDirect and ArcIMS.
The Community Update Program is a public/private partnership for maintaining the nation's street centerline data. GDT, one of the private sector partners, is sent street data by communities and integrates this data into a central database. SpatialDirect for ArcIMS is then used as the delivery mechanism providing real-time, multiformat data delivery back to the communities and to other clients.
Using ArcIMS as the GIS Web server and SpatialDirect for delivery of translated data, this paper focuses on the technical architecture of the Community Update solution and how this can be applied to the general problem of distribution of GIS data across the Internet.
